College Scholarships and Grants


College scholarships and grants provide students the opportunity to fund their studies. These awards enable them to study without worrying about paying anything back after completion of studies.

Ethnicity-Specific Scholarships

There several ethnicity-specific awards on offer in the U.S. One such opportunity is the African-American Achievement Scholarship, which is given each year to 9 African-Americans residing in particular counties of Massachusetts. Students can win $2500 to $3000 by availing this opportunity. Another one is the Jackie Robinson Scholarship, which is open for undergrads students from any minority group. Up to $6000 is provided to 50 to 60 students.

Grants for Special Talents

College grants are available for students who are skilled in a particular area. That special area could be a sport such football, an artistic activity such as photography, etc.

Math Grants

Students interested in mathematics have several opportunities to get a grant. Here are some of these opportunities; funds for college education for math lovers provided by the Raytheon Company if they teach a mathematics team, financial assistance for combined mathematics and computer science students provided by the National Science Foundation, funds for talented mathematicians provided by the Alpha Mu Theta, and awards at all levels of mathematics studies provided by the American Math Society.

Sports Grants

The National Collegiate Athletic Association is associated with providing college scholarships and grants for sports; however, there are other opportunities available as well such as the   National Strength Conditioning Association grant and other state-based grants. Interested students can check with the office of your local government for getting a list of the grants available in their state.

Art Grants

Grants are also available for students of art-related field. These opportunities include the grants for film makers provided by The Carole Fielding Student Grants program, awards for writers provided by the Arch and Bruce Brown Foundation, and funds for photographers provided by the McKnight Photography Fellowship.

These are some of the college scholarships and grants available. There may be many more opportunities in a particular field. A thorough search should be conducted to find opportunities available. This search can include an online search in addition to contacting the local government’s office. An online search may help students find a number of opportunities. There are certain scholarship search sites that allow students to specify the type of award they want and provide a list of opportunities according to the student’s search criteria.
